“I will sing about the Lord’s faithful love forever; I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations with my mouth. For I will declare, “Faithful love is built up forever; you establish your faithfulness in the heavens.” The Lord said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David my servant: ‘I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.’” Selah”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭89‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭CSB‬‬

There are two promises God made to David in verse four.

  1. I will establish your offspring forever
  1. I will build up your throne for all generations

Why did God promise these two things? Because He made a covenant with His chosen one and swore an oath to David, His servant.

If you read the chronicles of the house of Judah (the line of King David), you will discover some truly unsavory characters.

There were rulers who defied both God and man, and yet God was faithful to His promise.

God’s promises are never based on man’s faithfulness but His! His faithful love builds and establishes.

Jesus was a descendant of David, offspring of the house of Judah.

When He gave His life for us, and we believed in Him, He welcomed us into His eternal kingdom. A kingdom that has no end. Jesus is the Lion of the tribe of Judah. (Revelation 5:5)

 God is a covenant keeper!

The Hebrew word for faithful love (in verses 1 and 2) is: ḥeseḏ.

Which is translated as mercy (149x), kindness (40x), lovingkindness (30x), and goodness (12x).

This is why we sing of His faithful love. This is why we proclaim with our mouths, His faithfulness. He is merciful and kind. He is steadfast in His lovingkindness.

Father, we worship You because of Your faithful love towards us. Thank You for being a promise keeper. Thank You for being trustworthy and true to Your word. Jesus we are so grateful for Your mercy and love. We adore You Lord. Where would we be without You? Thank You for coming to this planet, to live as a human and dwell among us for the purpose of redemption. Jesus, You are worthy to receive all glory, honor and praise. We adore You, Lord! We adore You, Jesus! We adore You! In Jesus name, amen.
