On her Facebook page, my wise friend posted, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Surround yourself with greatness!” Her post made me stop and think about who I spend the most time with, and what I spend my time doing. I am the lone female in a house full of males, including a husband, two sons, and a dog, which means I spend my days looking for things nobody else can find, cleaning messes nobody else can see, and shopping for foods everyone else will eat. I may moan and complain about the things I find myself doing, but I wouldn’t trade the people who surround me for anything…although I might need a girl’s night out on occasion.

I also started thinking of my friend’s words in terms of my spiritual life, and I have found that, rather than surrounding myself with the greatness of God, I tend to surround myself with, well, myself. I get so caught up in my own wants and desires that I do not spend time building my relationship with God. I get so wrapped up in my will that I forget to seek God’s will. If, like me, you tend to spend way too much time with the “me, myself, and I” trio, let’s make an effort today to surround ourselves instead with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Just think how much better today will be if we do, even if it’s just an average day.
