Moses continued, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you yourselves requested of the Lord your God when you were assembled at Mount Sinai.[b] You said, ‘Don’t let us hear the voice of the Lord our God anymore or see this blazing fire, for we will die.’ 17 “Then the Lord said to me, ‘What they have said is right. 18 I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell the people everything I command him. 19 I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on my behalf. Deut 18:15-19 NLT
I love Christmas. From the pretty lights, baking special foods and treats and just the overall joyfulness of giving to others. What other time of year do you hear songs about Jesus played so openly on the radio and while you shop? Most of us when we are thinking of Jesus we are remembering the precious baby that is laying in the manger. Some might go further in thought to think of all the scriptures throughout the generations that prophesied about Emanuel (God among us). One such Scripture is the one above.
The Great Adonia knew that His people needed Him and yet they were unable to be in His presence so he sent his Son as a mouthpiece. He was in the form of a man and yet every bit God.
The very power and awesomeness that was on Mount Sinai, came to us in the form of a baby and later grew into a man. Someone relatable yet so powerful. For God said I will put my words in his mouth and he will tell the people everything I command him. Think about that for a minute: every word that is written is red, it came first from the mouth of God. Jesus said, “ …I do nothing on my own but say only what the Father taught me”. John 8:28
He truly was a prophet among us. One who spoke the words and will of God. If you ever wonder what the will of God is for your life, one of the best places to begin to search for that is in the New Testament Gospels. Look specifically at the words that Jesus spoke (some Bibles have them in red). Everything He spoke has/will come to pass.
So as we are about to enter this Christmas season, I’d like to challenge you that when you hear Carols like: Away in a Manger or Come, O come, Emanuel, to remember that the very miracle we are singing about was also a prophet speaking on behalf of the Awesome and Holy God. That is how much God loves you, he sent his son to be a prophet that walked among us.
