When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.”
Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.”
Genesis 17: 1-7
God made a covenant with Abraham, saying that, if Abraham would walk faithfully with Him, God would increase his numbers, make him fruitful, make nations come from him, make kings as his descendants, and be God to him and his descendants. We know, from the history written within the Bible, that God delivered on every one of the promises made in His covenant with Abraham. If God was able to keep his promises to Abraham, why do we worry that God will fail to keep his promises to us? When God promises, we can be certain He will deliver on those promises. His promises still hold even in the difficult times we find ourselves in.
Here are just a few of the promises God has made to us:
- “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14)
- “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (Isaiah 40:20)
- “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
- “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
- If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Father, you fulfilled all your promises to Abraham, and we know you will fulfill all of our promises to us, as well. Remind us daily that you will fight for us, that you will give us strength and power, that you will uphold us, and that the devil will flee from us when we resist him. Most of all, Lord, remind us that, if we, your people, will humble ourselves and pray and turn from wickedness, you will hear us, forgive us, and heal our land. We ask for your healing hand to come upon our land, and all other lands who are under attack from an invisible predator. Let the whole world know that you are our Redeemer! In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
