While attending a Bible Study recently, a friend, who tends to lean a little more left politically than I do, said that it is her experience that many Christians stand firm in what they are against, but do not support what they are for. I took her words as a personal challenge, and began to look at ways I could support my beliefs through action. At about the same time, another friend in the same Bible Study was getting involved in an organization called Christian Women’s Job Corps, and she was looking for volunteers to start a group in Lindale, TX. Each time my friend talked about CWJC, the Holy Spirit gave me a nudge. When she asked for prayers for the ministry, the Holy Spirit whispered in my ear “Here is something you can do.” When she said she was looking for volunteers to teach computer skills, the Holy Spirit spoke straight to my heart, saying “What are you waiting for, woman?” I was driving when this question was posed, so I waited until I reached my destination, and texted my friend to say I was in. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, my moment of truth happened in the Walmart parking lot. I bet you didn’t think good things could happen there, did you?
When I finally responded to the call of the Holy Spirit, and put my faith to work, I can’t begin to tell you all the ways I saw God in action through this ministry. He hand-picked a wonderful group of dynamic, capable, and loving Christian women, who served as both students and volunteers, and supplied every need we would have. As I write this now, our little CWJC Lindale group has completed our first 10-week section, graduated our first class of six awesome students, and held our first Advisory Council planning retreat. We are off to a running start, and I thank God that He brought all these new friends into my life. I hope I end up giving back to them as much as they have given to me.
“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
James 2: 14-17
I’m going to do something I’ve never done before and issue my own challenge, a call to action to all of you reading this blog. Are you supporting your faith with your actions? Is there someone God is calling you to stand behind, or some cause He is asking you to support? I am certain that if God is calling you to it, He will equip you to do it, and will bless others through you, and will bless you through them. If you are still searching for those people to stand behind or that cause to support, we would welcome you at Christian Women’s Job Corps Lindale. Can I ask for just a small favor? Will you take a minute to follow the link to our Facebook page, and react, comment, and/or share this post? We want to get the message out to those in the community that we are here and that we want to make a difference in the lives of the women God sends our way. Thanks!
