It Is Finished

The Son of Man Written By: Charise McNutt

Matthew 26:59-67
59”  Now the chief priests,  [a] the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him
to death,  60 [b] but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at
last two  [c] false witnesses came forward  61  and said, ‘This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of
God and to build it in three days.’ ” 62  And the high priest arose and said to Him, ‘Do You answer nothing?
What is it these men testify against You?’  63  But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said
to Him, ‘I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!’ 64  Jesus said
to him, ‘It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the
right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.’ 65  Then the high priest tore his clothes,
saying, ‘He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have
heard His blasphemy!  66  What do you think?’ They answered and said, ‘He is deserving of death.’ 67  Then
they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with  [d] the palms of their hands, saying,
‘Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck you?’’

The religious leaders were not trying to get to the truth. They were trying to prove what they wanted to
believe and they did it deceptively. Jesus did not waste time responding to deception. The high priest
finally demanded a bold request, one under an oath by the living God, “Tell us if You are the Christ, the
Son of God!” And Jesus responded with the truth no matter how these religious men would reply. “It is
as you said.”
He acknowledges that He is the Son of God, the Christ and continues saying, “Nevertheless, I say to you,
hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of
heaven.” He is was revealing to these men that He was the one spoken of in Daniel chapter 7, verses 13-

  1. Daniel had seen a vision of “one like the Son of man” and he “came with the clouds of heaven, and
came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion,
and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an
everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom is that which shall not be destroyed.”
Jesus was not pulling punches. He was speaking the truth with a boldness that the religious leaders
would get what He was saying. They had the opportunity to consider the truth and make a change but
they chose to reject the truth and condemn Him to death. Our humble King knew He was going to bare
the sin of the world. He knew what torture He was to face. But He also knew the eternal outcome, His
suffering would open the door for us to join Him in His everlasting kingdom and we rejoice, that
    kingdom will have no end!
Today, let us quiet our hearts and minds to consider who we believe Jesus is. The word of God tells us
He is Lord over all and His name is above every other name. (Phil 2:9-11) He is the image of the invisible

God and by Him all things were created for Him and by Him. He is before all things and in Him all things
hold together. (Col. 1:15-18) After Jesus resurrected and He visited the disciples Thomas put His hands
in the wounds of Jesus and his exclamation was, “My Lord and my God!” Is He your Lord and God? If
anything is before Him in your heart and mind, I encourage you to lay down the idol and address the
misperceptions of who Jesus is and what He has done for you. May we be like the Samaritans who said,
“It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know
that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”(John 4:42)
