Moving Mountains Written By: Sheree O’Pry
Mark 11:19-25
19 That evening Jesus and the disciples left the city. 20 The next morning as they passed by the fig tree he had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up. 21 Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree on the previous day and exclaimed, “Look, Rabbi! The fig tree you cursed has withered and died!” 22 Then Jesus said to the disciples “Have faith in God. 23 I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea’, and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. 24 I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you received it, it will be yours. 25 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”
Father forgive me. Reveal any grudges I may have that I am not consciously aware of. Thank you for your Word. Please bless the reader and the reading of this word.
Vs 25 “But”. Oh wow. How many times have I read this chapter and how did I skip over that? As I pray and talk with the LORD regarding the devotions that I write I want something revealed to me that is going to change my life and hopefully yours!? I learned how to pray from the “LORD’s prayer” that Jesus taught his disciples in Matthew 6: 9-13 and Luke 11: 2-4. In over 46 years of serving, I just now realize Jesus spoke of a way to pray that gives us insight to receiving what we truly desire.
First forgive! I am going to try very hard to remember this so that my prayers will be richer. I pondered this. I don’t know anyone I hold a grudge against, but it may be because I don’t give the Father a chance to reveal things inside me I may be pushing away. He knows me, he crafted me, he cleanses me, and I want to please Him!
I always contemplated, literally, that big mountain Jesus speaks about moving if we really want it moved. He said if we believe enough and don’t doubt. I’ve been like, “Why would I want to move a mountain?” To prove my faith? Since reading this I realize He is talking about the mountains in our lives that we really need to get over or around! Those really hard and difficult times in our lives. The ones that literally take our breath, our strength, our minds in a million different directions. I could list many examples, especially the ones I’ve been through, but I think you all get the mountains Jesus is talking about because you have had them in your lives. I hope this has made you think too about the forgiveness you need to give in your life.
Jesus, thank you for being the intercessor of our prayers to the Father. Thank you for the revelation, the unveiling of our hearts when we ask. I’m blessed you bless us with your treasures in abundant ways. And thank you most of all for your Word which is rich in ways for us to live successful lives! Amen
